February 22nd - March 4th, 2018 | Savannah, GA

Hestia's ten day long emerging artist residencies connect up-and-coming creative practitioners with today's community thought leaders.

Our programming will place five artists in five host homes across Savannah, Georgia. Savannah - a gnash-teeth, hollerin-whisper, gothic kind of Wonderland - is a vital cultural portal, the "Hostess City."

Our residents - from an Oakland-based science fiction writer to an electronic sound composer from Brooklyn to a mixed media artist from Tijuana - will maintain eleven days of solo work before converging on a local studio to produce a joint documentation show.

Hestia is working intimately with Savannah's community & cultural partners to devise mentorship-based programming, exhibitions, acts of service, & a collaborative intensive that serves the unique needs of the Savannah arts scene.

Hestia’s annual Nomadic residency supports four residents on a two-month, cross-country odyssey.

Our residency begins in San Diego, CA with a shared orientation weekend. Residents - from visual artists to writers; digital storytellers to filmmakers - come together to prep for their solo treks.

Over the following six weeks, each nomad-in-residence embeds in a series of four homes in different communities across the US & Baja.

From a sculptor's gothic castle in Lexington, Kentucky to a samba collective's airplane hangar in Portland, Oregon, we expose our residents to the diversity of creative environments that make up These United States.

Residents, supported by home & hearth, gain insight & make connections under the guidance of hosts. They're offered time, daily studio space, & potential for collaboration. Hosts provide the nurturing home space to prop up creative risk-taking; cultural partners provide resources & catalyzing conversation.

The Hero's Journey residents pour themselves into their local communities, creating from their environs & enriching localities via public mentorship, programming, & fellowship activities.

At the conclusion of the journey, Hestia residents converge on Savannah, GA for a one-week collaborative documentation project, coming together across mediums/disciplines to decompress, to synthesize experiences, & mount a show in concert with our "curator-in-residence."

...& the end of all our exploring/Will be to arrive where we started/& know the place for the first time.

Our nomads-in-residence return to their home communities with an Exhibition Grant to mount a solo show under the guidance of a local institution. The show must be completed in the year following the residency.
